I want to change the belt on my 5.0. i've never done it before so should i try to do it or have a shop put it on? I feel confident and i really want to learn but i also dont want to f*** up cause its my only car. i bought a ford motorcraft belt the right one for my 5.0 but i really dont want a shop to do it cause the cheapest price i found was almost $100 in labor. they also wanted to charge me 70 for the belt but i got mine from LRS for half the price. =) So how hard is it to change? Do i need a timing light? what all do you have to take off to change it? Any help would be awesome. Thank you

follow the diagram. put the wrench on the tensioner pulley. move counterclockwise. its pretty tight, but hold it. unloop the belt, release pressure on the tensioner. take the belt off. then do it in reverse.

ok so let me make sure i got this correct. when i put the wrench on the tensioner pully and turn counterclockwise how far should i turn it? and when i turn it and unloop the belt i turn it back clockwise to release pressure correct? does it matter where i start to put the belt on? i understand which way it goes. i'm just trying to understand the pressure part. do i continue to hold the wrench on the pulley. sorry just trying to make sure i got it.

k its real easy stuff here. take a 18 mm wrench and put it on tensioner bolt and lift it up. dont push on it jus pull until the belt is loose. once u have the belt out of the way let the tensioner go. re route the new belt again and once you are done left the tensioner up again and slide the belt under it. and let the tensioner go. The tensioner is auto adjusting. u dont have to worry about the tension on the belt or anything.

hey robertrorkjr. what kind of alternator did you upgrade to? I see 3g but did you go with the 130 or 200? I'm curious cause i want to upgrade mine as well. And whats the difference with the 6g? I read that its smaller and requires no modification. But i dont hear about anyone using the 6g.

I could not tell you any thing about the 6g but originally I upgraded to the 200 amp but about 9 months after the install the alt took a crap on me so I got a 130 amp alt from a wrecked mustang for $30 at a parts yard and it has charged fine ever since. as for the modification of the bracket, it takes about 5 mins to do just grind, chisel, or cut. The wiring did not take long at all.
